About the Society

The Society is both a Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee.

Objective

To promote and encourage the breeding of high class Dales Ponies.

Activities

To maintain and publish The Dales Pony Stud Book for the registration of Dales Ponies. See Services.

To publish and disseminate information on all matters concerning Registered Dales Ponies. See Newsletter Articles.

To hold shows of ponies. See Events.

Membership

Applications for membership need to be in writing as members have to accept the Memorandum and Articles of the Society. An Application Form is available from the Secretary.

There are two main types of membership: Full Member and Junior Member, for those people who under 18 years old. Subscriptions are due immediately an application for membership is accepted by the Society. From then on, annual subscriptions are due from 1st January each year. See Tariffs for Membership fees.

Members are entitled to:

register and transfer Dales Ponies in the Dales Pony Stud Book, at reduced rates;

exhibit registered Dales Ponies at shows organised by the Society and to receive notice of such shows;

receive notice of, and to attend all general meetings of the Society.

The Council

The Council consists of twelve Members of the Society. Members of Council continue in office for a term of three years: four Members of Council retire each year. They are elected by the members, a vote being taken if more candidates are proposed than there are vacancies on the Council.

The Council:

has control over all the affairs and property of the Society;

makes or amends regulations regarding the Registrations and Transfers, The Dales Pony Stud Book, Stallion Licences and Service Book, Stallion, Colt and Mare Premiums, the Breed Shows, and the distribution of awards;

reviews the Judges' List.

Annual General Meeting

The Society holds its Annual General Meeting in the Winter of each year. This is usually at the beginning of November and is held in the environs of Barnard Castle in County Durham.

The notice calling the AGM includes the audited accounts of the Society, whose financial year runs from 1 September to 31 August.

Officers

President

The President is an Honorary Member of the Society and represents the Society on special occasions and promotes its objectives and aims. The current President is Mrs Iona FitzGerald, who is a long serving member and has published a book about the Dales Pony.

Chairman and Vice-Chairman

The Chairman of the Society is Mr Jeff Daley and the Vice-Chairman is Mrs Jill Graham.

The Secretary is the main contact point for information about the Society. The Secretary is Mrs Jo Ashby.
